Build and reuse custom financial ratios
A custom ratio combines the financial fields available in TickerKhoj into a calculation you name. You can use that name in another ratio, screen companies with it, and add it as a results column.
Two calculations, one reusable building block
These deliberately simple calculations demonstrate the syntax. They are not a stock-selection model or a recommendation.
- Returns average:
(ROE + ROCE) / 2 - Returns per PE:
[Returns average] / PE
With hypothetical ROE of 20%, ROCE of 30% and P/E of 10, the first result is 25%; the second is 2.5. The percent fields use percentage points (20, not 0.20). Choosing a display unit labels the result; it does not convert the arithmetic.
ROE and ROCE measure returns on different capital bases. Their average is just an illustration. A high result here does not establish that a company is cheap, safe or a good investment.

Free sign-in required. The link carries the example definitions and selected columns; it does not save them to your library automatically.
- Open the custom-ratio editor to inspect each definition. Square brackets refer to another named ratio.
- Preview a company to see the base financial inputs and the result. Missing values or division by zero remain unavailable.
- Change the conditions or calculation, then run the screen. Editing a draft does not change the already displayed results.
- Choose your result columns, sort by a ratio, or save the displayed screen. A shared screen carries the calculation definitions with it.
The example query is Market cap > 10000 AND PE > 0 AND [Returns per PE] > 0. Market cap is in ₹ crore. The threshold is an illustration, not a recommended cutoff.
What the calculation engine supports
- Arithmetic with supported financial fields, parentheses and references to named custom ratios.
- Up to 8 ratios in one screen and 24 saved in the ratio library; each expression can contain up to 400 characters.
- Missing references and circular dependencies produce an error. A ratio used by another ratio cannot simply be removed.
- Only fields available in the screener can be used. This is not an arbitrary programming runtime or a way to query every historical filing line item.
Check the data timestamp, reporting period, units and underlying company filing before interpreting results. Read the financial metric guide for field definitions.
