Polycab's Q2 growth has breadth and net cash; the margin mix still matters
Polycab India Limited · Q2 FY2026-27, quarter ended 30 September 2026
In short
Polycab's September 2026 quarter combined 53% revenue growth, 43% profit growth and a larger net-cash position. The quality test is whether cash generation and margins keep pace with its expanding wires, consumer and EPC businesses.
Growth was not confined to one business
Polycab reported Q2 FY27 consolidated revenue from operations of ₹9,898.9 crore, up 53% year on year. EBITDA was ₹1,422.5 crore, up 39%, while profit after tax reached ₹990 crore, up 43%. First-half revenue rose 46% to ₹18,108.6 crore, so the reported acceleration is visible beyond a single quarter.
Wires and cables grew 47% year on year in Q2. Fast-moving electrical goods revenue more than doubled, and its EBIT margin reached 10.1%. The breadth is encouraging, but the faster growth of a smaller segment must not be confused with an equal contribution to group profit.
What management says is driving it
The company attributes domestic wires-and-cables growth to infrastructure and private-sector demand, channel execution and its Project Spring initiatives. It also reports international growth of 17% in Q2. These are management's explanations for the quarter, not independent guarantees of future demand.
The cash and margin cross-check
Polycab reported net cash of ₹4,519.9 crore at 30 September 2026 versus ₹2,941.6 crore a year earlier. That makes the balance sheet a meaningful support to the growth case. Yet H1 operating cash flow of ₹1,670.8 crore was below H1 profit after tax of ₹1,786.7 crore; this is a modest gap, not evidence that all reported earnings have already turned into cash.
A further distinction: Q2 EBITDA margin was 14.4%, below 15.8% a year earlier, despite the growth in absolute EBITDA. Product mix, copper and aluminium costs, and execution therefore matter as much as the headline revenue increase. This is our interpretation of the company's reported numbers.
What the next filing should answer
Does a stronger net-cash position settle the growth-quality question? No. It reduces funding concern, but the next results need to show whether operating cash flow, working capital and segment margins keep pace with sales. In the latest presentation, H1 operating cash flow was ₹1,670.8 crore and FMEG EBIT margin reached 10.1% in Q2; both deserve repeat observation rather than extrapolation.
What could weaken the case
Q2 group EBITDA margin was below the year-earlier level even as revenue rose 53%. A less favourable raw-material or business mix, weaker channel demand, or slower conversion of profit into cash could narrow the apparent quality of growth. These are monitoring risks, not predictions. Without a current valuation and forward cash-flow model, strong operations alone do not establish an attractive entry point.
